Hi All,
In my maya scene some objects won't render in IPR window. It renders the first time but when I select a region, the region becomes black which makes it unable to tweak the shaders.
Other objects in the same scene behaves fine.
Does anybody know about this?
Thanks in advance.

hey, i'm not an expert but i will give it my 2 cents.
- does it happen with every scene or just with this one?
- Its an old cheap trick but you can try deleting your maya prefs folder, that some times sorts out many problems with maya, but it does delete all your settings and tabs.
C:\Documents and Settings\Vartz\My Documents\maya\Version_number\prefs
Version number - 8.5 / 2008
simply delete that folder or move it out from there, and then open your maya again and see if it helps.

another possibility would be that you are using a unsupported shader. depending on your maya version some shaders where not supported or if you use a plugin shader.
Hi Guys,
Thanks for your replies.
Vartan A, I don't think its to do with the prefs. On the other hand I can't afford to disable my prefs as there is so much into it. I tried it anyways but in vain.
longrayjohnson, The sample image I have is using the default Lambert shader so there is no shader problem as well.
My guess is it has to do with the polygon itself or the UVs. I couldn't find anything yet but will keep digging.
If anybody finds before me, please do let me know.
Thanks again,

1. Create an automatic uv mapping
2. Don't use maya's default lambert, apply new one
3. Try blinn, put one point light between your object and camera
4. Check your object renderable status properties

- cheek the the object is not templated or referenced
- check that render settings is not set to render only selected objects, or sets.
- check your alpha channel
- check that no render layer exists that has the object hidden (this happened once to a buddy of mine)
- check your prerender scripts section
IPR does also not support every feature so if its a reflection in maya software it wont show up etc etc.
PS: you dont need to delete prefs to test if teh problem is in your prefs. just copy the folder away and then run maya. You can now copy prefs back when you exit maya. Then you know its some persistent option most likely the render settings flag in render view.
