Ok, I imported a poly mesh from another program, and it came in microscopic. So I applied an Xform modifier, scaled it up to 6075216.5 times it's original size, then collapsed the stack. The problem is, if you check it's absolute scale, it never reset. It's absolute scale is still 6075216.5. Where this becomes a problem is when I try to add a skin modifier, and I have to type in .00001 into the envelope editors to get a small change. Otherwise, simply dragging a spinner causes envelopes to go from small to off-the-scale big in a snap.
Is there ANY possible way to "reset" it's transformations back to zero? In Maya, you have a function that does just that. But im Max... I'm simply stumped!
Any ideas? Thanks!
ok... I'm a freaking idot.
Perhaps it's the "reset scale" button in the hierarchy rollout..?
It's amazing what typing "reset scale" in a documention search engine will bring up.
Sorry for the junk posting guys.
Note to self..... RTFM!
Argh!
Ok, I have the scale reset, but the skin modifier is STILL extremely touchy (see above). I can't ineractively adjust envelopes.
SOOO... does anyone have any idea how to get skin to behave more properly in this instance?
......
and if I find the answer to this problem in the next few minutes (like I did the last one) you are all allowed to kill me painfully for bothering you all yet again!
You might want to try creating another object, convert to whatever you other mesh is, and attach your character mesh to the one you just created. That will get rid of all the scale issues. Once you have done that, go into SO element mode, selecte the part that you had just created, and delete. Then just rename the mesh to whatever.
Hope this helps ya!

i suppose you have tried adding the reset xform modifier from the tools area and collapsing the mesh.....
