Hope you all had a wonderful eve.
Okay, here are my problems with reactor controller:
I built bunch of morph targets for my character's shoulder then I use reactor controller on each morph channel and have them driven by the rotation of the upper arm, since I have mutiple morph targets which are all driven by the same upper arm at the different angles, they interfere with each other and give some unexpected results in between. And I already tried every attributes listed in the reactor window: strength, influence, fall off curve... yet none of them can fix the problem. And also it seems the reactor controller does not allow you to use multiple attributes to drive one object's action. So I tried to use float list controller to make each morph shape driven by multiple objects using reactor controller which also turns out to be a failure. Then I try to use float script controller to do the job but I am having a hard time to figure out how to make interpolation between different morph targets work the way I want. Man! This is frustrating. It is so much easier to do the same job in Maya using set driven key, which gives the user almost total control over everything I mentioned above that's giving me such a headache in Max, or maybe just because I am not smart enough.
And I am using character studio which I think is a quite neat tool, especially for the easy and seamless FK/IK blending. However, I found out that it seems Character studio is using quaternion(or its own fansy stuff) instead of Euler and do not allow users to change the controller type thus you can't use lots of new features come with Max4 including wiring, which kind of defeats the point to use CS at many situations.
One more thing, does anyone know how to make one object deform another in Max(like what the "wrap deformer" does in Maya) which is very useful to make low res model drive high res model or have the armor driven by the body which is being deformed by the bones.
Anyway, thanks for your time viewing this post and any suggestion or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I really miss Maya except for the price and the renderer.
Best,
Sheng
