I'm want to buy a book where I can learn about 3dsmax. It has to be with a big chapter about box modling, because I suck to it, and I want to learn it. Do you know one you can recomend me?

I look at some of the books, and "3ds max 4 In Depth" sounds interesting. "3Ds Max 4 Bible" can't I find anything about, but it looks like you can learn something, but of couse "Mastering the Art of Production with 3ds max 4" has been given 5 of 5 stars in amazone.com.

I just bought "Mastering the Art of Production with 3ds max 4". It sure reads great! I haven't tried the exercises yet. It does have a chapter on box modeling, but it's not the focus of the book. I think the strength of the high end 3D packages is that they support many different modeling styles, including, but not limited to, box modeling.

Where that book excels is in showing you all the other stuff, including maxscript, that's required to do a full animation. I think it's the best 3dmax book I've ever seen, so far.

If you want to model Quake3-style human figures, you might also look at Paul Steed's book (Do an author search on Amazon.com). It's exceedingly detailed. If you're interested in Quake style modeling, try visiting the polycount forums (use Google to find the URL) .

Many people say that box modeling is better learned from watching videos than from books. There are lots of time-lapse AVI files on the web that can be downloaded for free. There are also commercial training videos available.

For box modeling in general, try the Wings3D, Nendo, Mirai, and Spiraloid forums.

What is the focus of the book?? What about matrial? Because I suck to that too. Will you recommand that book to a advanced newbie, that knows some of the basiks of 3dsmax??

The book shows you everything you need to do to create a 30 second animation.

The book does not cover materials, or UV texture mapping. I think there are other books that do that, but since it's not an area of interest of mine, I haven't paid much attention to those kinds of books. (I am interested in character animation.)

The books aim, according to its preface, is to teach you how to make a fully articualted character with a skelital structure, and animate it in a live-action environment with a custom user interface written from scratch.

The book says that pre-existing experience with Max is helpful, but not required.
