Hi, I am somewhat of a newbie at Max. I've done a lot of 2D graphical work, especially with Flash and Photoshop. I've so far done only basic motion tweens and have some difficulty with creating complex shapes. I'm wondering where I can find the best tutorials (books, website, etc.) to start out with.

If possible, I would like a specific source that would greatly help me to create this:

My first project: A Victorian Classical-ish room. It will have some rather interesting light effects via sunlight entering intricately designed windows. It'll also have a load of "borrowed" furnitures... hardwood floor with rugs...

Inside 3ds max 4 is a good book that gives a lot of good exercises by Kim Lee.

If you are just looking for regular tutorials to teach you the basics, I would suggest going to: Help->Tutorials within max and going through the lessons. It will most likely teach you what you need to know to complete your first project.

I think inside 3ds max 3 would be a better idea. inside 4 covers mostly complex topics on IK and character animation as well as broadcast camera matching, while inside 3 has a better coverage of max in general. have a look at both books before you buy it.

in case you're worried, max 3 and max 4 has the same basic tools, just some new additions which you can find through the help files included, and you can probably get inside 3 for cheaper too )
